Still Here, Still Working
The color of clay; the color that my hands are tinted after I've been throwing for a while. The iron in the clay makes my hands reddish.
I completed my second semester of wheel throwing last Friday. I made some pretty big leaps in my form and evenness of the walls of my pots. Pictures to come soon.
I have only been really happy with a few of the pieces that I've made since I began on the wheel but I'm glad that I threw all of the other forms. I learned a lot.
I went to Cherokee at the beginning of June...met Doris and her family. More huge leaps in my level of inspiration. I like to say I went back there to BE Cherokee for a while. I had visions and felt the land. I met wonderful people.
The family is doing well except for Jim's back which may have another blown disk. It's wierd...seems like we know how to live in this situation more than in a pain-free one.
Chase will be 4 next week and Jake just turned 3. Here are Robin and Sarah during Robin's trip to Boise last month.
I was accepted for a gourd fine art show in Fallbrook, CA. It was my first big exhibit and I have sold 2 of my 4 pieces.
I have been happier than I can remember being in a long time. I feel satisfied knowing that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. Trying not to let what I perceive to be bad things in life to make me freeze up.
Love to you all.
Lisa
Update July 10 9:26am The pieces that sold are Tribal Madonna (holding the baby) and Tribal Fertility (with the belly).

WONDERFUL update! So inspiring! OMG! Chase looks older, but JAKIE!!
The last pic I saw of him, he still looked a lil like a baby, but *poof* that is all gone. Your girls--like you--are beautiful as always (every time, I see you in their faces!) Jim.... oh my.... don't know what to say other than I am glad you both are coping with his state of health.
I love, love, LOVE you new pieces! I love the subject matter you choose... they are so full of life! Okay, which two did you sell? How do you sculpt the parts that are not gourd? Their hands are SO dainty. You van Gogh, girl!
(I heard that in a movie, LOL!) Okay, did the gal in the dreads with her belly exposed sell?? I am SO coveting that one. She has great body language and such a far away and thoughtful look in her eyes.
About your Yahoo group... I fell off the wagon, LOL! I was reading and commenting so regularly until I got sick... and then I got behind and there was so much to catch up with and I wanted to read it all, but was overwhelmed and have been coaching myself ever since that it will just be okay to go back and pick up from there, heh.
Is that how you feel about Xanga???
I'll be back, I promise... so much to do away from the computer since it's summer. Miss and love ya lots!
Yes, which one's did you sell and how much are the other ones?
I'm Happy that you are Happy!

First the boys... OMG! I have been scarce lately here so I hadn't seen recent pics of Chase or Jakie and I was SHOCKED! They are such Q T Pies anyway, but what fine little men they are becoming! :sigh:
The girls are cuties too and as Teri mentioned, mama's reflection is there when I see pics of them. I think you have a SUPEr family and I am soooooo sorry about the pain with which Jim lives lately. Plans for correction or just coping with the pain by use of meds for now?
The pieces you made were inspiring and my fave was the mama holding the pappose. ...did I spell that correctly?
I will pray things get on a better or at least easier footing for you all soon.
Please tell Sarah-belle I miss her entries.
Hugs and love and prayers,
Debbie
Fallbrook!? Cool, that's right by us.
RYC: Do you like greens and beans? I love them both and add cornbread and that is all there is, LOL! I could be a vegetarian, except there is probably some pork seasoning somewhere in there! Lyss is taking guitar... I don't have sense or patience... she is naturally gifted. She is taking bluegrass picking from a guy who plays as a studio musician in Nashville and also plays banjo in a couple of bands (he's quite good!) Lyss has been writing songs (one worthy of publishing!) and she loves, loves, lives to play... she plays at church every week, as well as goes to jam sessions every time she gets a chance. She played a wedding with Jody, her teacher and another guy named Nick who plays mandolin. They sound pretty good! She would like to do something with a music career... she hopes to go to East Tenn State at least for two years and take their major that in in Appalachian Studies (culture and life) and Music... you'd like that!

wonderful to hear from you...and your site feels so lovely serene a sense of wellbeing comes through. especially enjoy your expectant mom gourd (or so I imagine it to be- the first one is lovely as is the last one) -g
Hello Lisa ! Glad to hear from you . I took a rest too . But I am here to appreciate your artwork . I like those gourds and we feel the Cherokee inspiration . The earth speaks .
Thanks for sharing the photos of Robin , Sarah and grandsons . It was a while .... . Thanks again .

The gourd figures are wonderful. I love the fertility one, but the face of the one with short hair is the one I would have bought. You have a lovely family.
